Why are they trending you might ask?
Let the experts at Sports Speakers Bureau break down Who’s Hot and find out why these Sports Speakers are making Headlines.
Tim Howard: The temporary rain cloud that was hovering over the Men’s National Soccer Team seems to have lifted after the fellas returned to action in several friendly tune-up matches before the World Cup officially begins on the 12th. Still leading the charge is the immovable Tim Howard, one of the most successful goalies in national team history. With a 2-0 win over Turkey in the team’s final friendly before the world cup stages begin, Tim picked up his 54th win as a U.S. keeper and passed Kasey Keller for most wins all-time by a U.S. goalie.
Maria Sharapova: It’s been 2 years since Maria last tasted victory at the French leg of the Grand Slam tournament tour, and in that time she’s been awful busy. Her endorsement deals with industry leaders are second to none in the world of women’s sports and her newest lines of Sugarpova sweets are going global, currently shipping to 30 countries all over the world! Balancing her tennis career and her business career and yet, here she is; semifinal bound in her 12th career French Open this week. Just 2 wins away from another title we think this might be more than just a sugar rush for Maria’s career!
Hakeem Olajuwon: It’s one thing to get to play a professional sport and become a Hall of Famer in your league but it’s another thing to in turn become the league’s ambassador to your entire homeland. Hakeem was recently announced as the NBA’s newest ambassador to Africa and the longtime Rockets center is gearing up to aid the NBA office based in South Africa in coordinating NBA Cares events and overseeing player development. Hakeem is ready to bring a positive message for change and achievement to Africa in a time when his home country of Nigeria has recently been ravaged by civil unrest.
Cam Newton: Cam Newton has got some serious swag. Now we’re not just talking about his Under Armour signature cleats or his superman socks complete with mini red capes, we’re talking about the following that he has created as one of the most exciting and dynamic players in the NFL today. Cam could be on his way to the ultimate christening as an NFL player sans hoisting a Lombardi Trophy after being pitted against Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman in the final round of voting to be named the cover boy for EA Sports’ newest Madden video game. Yet if he takes the crown, it will be just another notch in the bedpost of a young guy hungry to shake up the NFC South.
Mack Brown: Johnny Manziel may still be the most popular man in Texas in the papers, but former Texas Longhorns Head Coach Mack Brown has become one of the state’s most beloved citizens after his 16 years at one of the state’s largest public institutions. After he resigned from the job in December, we knew it wouldn’t be long before teams started calling and it looks like for now none other than the team at ESPN has hooked the Texas sports icon. His warm personality and charm on camera bodes well for the new position and he will be able to remain on the national stage with some of the best studio analysts in the sports broadcasting industry.
Brad Richards: On Sunday, the New York Rangers punched their ticket to the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time in 20 years with a win over the Montreal Canadiens. Since dealing captain Ryan Callahan at the trade deadline in March, the proverbial “C” has been stitched on veteran Brad Richard’s jersey after he stepped into the leadership role during a time that could’ve spelled disaster for the team. The vet is now bolstering a team that was on the ropes against a talented Pittsburgh Penguins team in the division series and now has a chance at a Stanley Cup title.
Carey Hart: When some people think of motorcycles, they’re thinking dive bars, tattoos and biker gangs. Yet it was Vegas-born freestyle motocross rider Carey Hart who helped reinvent the perception of a motorcyclist and his accomplishments in the action sports realm have resonated with and created new fans of the sport in places all around the world. This week, Carey was inducted into the Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame and if you think his motocross career has been impressive, read up on his business savvy. His off-track endeavors are an excellent example of the passion and skill it takes to do the things you love and turn them into business opportunities.
Steve Levy: Over the years hockey fans and ESPN fanatics alike have reserved a special place in their hearts for the beloved co-anchors Steve Levy and Barry Melrose. This year, the duo is celebrating their 20th Stanley Cup Finals broadcasting together and if you haven’t seen ESPN’s tribute video of the pair throughout the year’s it’s a must watch! Funny, quirky, and incredibly knowledgeable about sports, Steve has been utilized outside his normal duties at ESPN as a familiar sports reporter in a number of major motion pictures including Fever Pitch, The Game Plan and Parental Guidance.
Barry Melrose: The debonair gentleman that is Barry Melrose has fortified ESPN’s primary hockey coverage for 20 years with his partner Steve Levy. His luscious, flowing mullet can only be rivaled by his stylish suit choices and his on-screen chemistry with Levy is a prime example of his genuine friendliness. He has become the most popular hockey analyst amongst many ESPN viewers and his fan base extends to an international level given the sport’s popularity in places like Canada and northwestern Europe. Cheers to 20 more years, Barry!
Richard Sherman: We can’t tell which is bigger; Richard Sherman’s smile since he helped lead his team to a Super Bowl title or his contract as the highest paid cornerback in the NFL. The lovable player and humanitarian has been rewarded with several opportunities this offseason such as his endorsement deals with Oberto Beef Jerky and the hottest sports drink on the market, BodyArmor. Winning the Madden cover this Friday would be the icing on the cake for the Seahawks star and further define his developing personal brand off the field. At any rate, expect this guy to remain one of the league’s most familiar faces in the immediate years to come.
