Sports Speaker Tim Raines is a former standout left fielder most notably for the Montreal Expos before their franchise relocated to Washington, D.C. as the Washington Nationals. Tim has widely been regarded as one of the bestN/left fielders the game has ever seen alongside the likes of Rickey Henderson and Carl Yastrzemski. His 23-year MLB career is highlighted by 3 World Series titles. He won 2 as a player with the New York Yankees in 1996 and 1998. Following his playing career, Tim joined the coaching staff of the Chicago White Sox who won the World Series in 2005. Sports Speaker Tim Raines now serves as a special instructor in the Toronto Blue Jays organization.

Tim was drafted by the Expos in 1977. He was a solid all-around player who had a knack for smart base running. He debuted with the Expos as an infielder before moving to his rightful spot in left field. Tim was the runner up for Rookie of the Year in the strike-shortened 1981 season. The Expos’ fans quickly fell in love with his exciting and aggressive style of play. Sports Speaker Tim Raines led the National League in steals 3 straight seasons from 1981-1984. In total, Tim made 7 All-Star appearances and was named the All-Star MVP in 1987.

Following his stint with the Expos, Tim played for the Chicago White Sox, New York Yankees and Oakland Athletics before being diagnosed with Lupus in 1999. He was able to recover from the disease and spent part of the 2001 season playing with his son for the Baltimore Orioles. He retired as a member of the Florida Marlins in 2002. It was only a year later that Tim would begin his foray into coaching with the Class-A affiliate of the Expos. Tim would eventually serve as the first base coach for the World Series winning Chicago White Sox from 2004-2006. He also spent time coaching the Newark Bears in the Can-Am League.
