Steven Stamkos is a Canadian professional hockey player playing for the Tampa Bay Lightning of the National hockey League. He is the alternate captain for the Lightning behind right winger Martin St. Louis and set the team record for most goals scored in a single season with sixty in the 2011-2012 season. He is a 2-time Maurice Richard Trophy award winner given to the player with the most goals scored in the league. In 2014 Steven was selected to represent his home nation of Canada at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

Before becoming the prized center for the Lightning, Sports Speaker Steven was a standout star in the Ontario Minor Hockey Association and was teammates with fellow NHL player P.K. Subban. After being drafted 1st overall by the Sarnia Sting in the 2006 Ontario Hockey League Draft, Steven would earn several league honors including the Canadian hockey League’s Top Draft Prospect Award for 2008 which encompasses the players from all 3 major Canadian leagues.

The Tampa Bay Lightning would make good on that award and draft Steven as the #1 overall pick in the 2008 NHL Draft and at 19 recorded his first 3-goal hat trick game against the Chicago Blackhawks. This feat made him the first rookie in Lightning history to record a hat trick and also the second youngest player in NHL history behind Bobby Carpenter who scored 3 goals in a game in 1982. With his skills and popularity came the spoils, signing multiple endorsement deals including a deal with Nike, Tissot watches, and Coca-Cola. In 2011, he was even chosen to be the cover boy of EA Sports NHL 12 the video game. Steven is one of many NHL players that train under former NHL player Gary Roberts.
