Stephen A. Smith has become one of the prominent sports analysts on the ESPN and supporting networks. He is widely recognized for sitting opposite the desk of fellow analyst Skip Bayless to debate the latest in sports news on ESPN First Take. He also currently hosts his own ESPN Radio broadcast The Stephen A. Smith and Ryan Ruocco Show. As one of the most popular sports analysts in today’s news, Stephen has also become a well-known figure in popular culture.

Sports Speaker Stephen played basketball at Winston-Salem State University and got his first job out of college as a sportswriter for the Daily News in New York City. After a little over a year, he took a position as a sportswriter for The Philadelphia Inquirer for which he has written on and off now since 1994. Stephen would cover college basketball and football before landing his dream job covering the NBA. He was a writer for the Philadelphia 76ers and covered other NBA stories before becoming a full-blown General Sports Columnist. Stephen was a part of Fox SportsNet’s broadcast of the Best Damn Sports Show, Period! before ESPN hired him to become an analyst/insider on NBA Shootaround. His unique thought provoking and in your face style of analysis helped land him his own show Quite Frankly on ESPN from 2005-2007, and since then he has appeared on a host of ESPN productions including Jim Rome is Burning, Pardon the Interruption, and as an anchor on ESPN’s headlining show, SportsCenter.

Stephen was a guest commentator for MSNBC’s coverage of Michael Jackson’s funeral service and makes regular appearances on the network’s shows Morning Joe, The Ed Show and The Dylan Ratigan Show. He has also enjoyed a successful radio career and his New York based ESPN Radio show has since begun to be broadcasted nationally.
