On the court, NBA point guard and Sports Speaker Stephen Curry is one of the most lethal scorers and long-range shooters to ever play. Stephen is widely considered to be the best three-point shooter in the history of the NBA, yet his career with the Golden State Warriors is nowhere near completion. Off the court, Stephen is a humble, ordinary guy and positive role model for the millions of young kids who look up to him and try to emulate his moves on the court. Stephen saw his success rise to historic heights when he received the NBA’s Most Valuable Player Award for the 2014-2015 season while also leading his Golden State Warriors to a league-best 67-15 record.

The son of former NBA sharpshooter Dell Curry, Sports Speaker Stephen Curry’s whole life revolved around basketball. However, being the son of an NBA player didn’t mean that Stephen was spoon-fed opportunity and success immediately in his career. No; everything he has accomplished today is a direct result of hard work and a desire to be great. Coming out of high school, Stephen garnered very little attention from major college programs; his slender frame scared off most coaches. His most lucrative offer was to play for tiny Davidson College, just 20 minutes from his hometown of Charlotte, NC. In 2008, Stephen put little Davidson, N.C. on the map when he exploded onto the national scene by torching high-major programs like Gonzaga, Georgetown, and Wisconsin in a true David vs. Goliath scenario. His junior season was his best individual season at Davidson, leading the nation in scoring with 28.6 points per game and being named a consensus First-Team All-American. During his career at Davidson, Stephen set the NCAA record for three pointers in a season as well as setting school records in points, three pointers, and 30 and 40-point games.

Despite his impressive play in college, Stephen was still the underdog; NBA scouts and analysts declared Stephen “too slender” for the physical play of the NBA. Stephen would continue to wrong his doubters, averaging 17.5 points and 5.9 assists in his rookie season. After his career seemed to be in-doubt after an injury-plagued 2011-2012 season, Stephen bounced back in the 2012-2013 season, dropping an NBA season-high 54 points in Madison Square Garden against the New York Knicks on 2/27/13 as well as setting the NBA record for most three pointers made in a season with 272. He would go on to break his own record in the 2014-2015 seasons, hitting an absurd 286 thee pointers.

From college unknown to NBA MVP and national superstar, Stephen is the ultimate underdog story. His humble demeanor and likeness as an average guy when not lighting up teams for 30+ points on a nightly basis has turned him into one of the NBA’s most marketable figures. Stephen is currently the face of Under Armour’s basketball brand, which recently released Stephen’s first signature basketball shoe, the Curry One. Stephen also has endorsements with State Farm, Degree, Express, Muscle Milk, and JBL headphones. In addition to his achievements, Stephen is an avid golfer and philanthropist, hosting his own Stephen Curry ThanksUSA Charity Golf Tournament to raise money for spouses and children of active-duty military. Sports Speaker Stephen Curry also works with Nothing but Nets, dedicated to helping families in Africa prevent the spread of malaria through the use of bed nets. Stephen donates 3 bed nets for every three pointer he hits, and at this rate, he will save thousands of lives.

Sports Speaker Stephen Curry has blossomed into a sports icon and role model on and off the court.
