Returning to the number one spot in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, as well as serving on the board of the Women’s Leadership Summit, professional golfer Stacy Lewis seems to have her priorities straight. For seven weeks now Lewis has maintained her position as the top female golfer in the world, which is why it is no surprise that she is also up for a 2014 ESPY award as the best female golfer. Although Lewis began golfing professionally in 2008, it was not until 2011 that she experienced her first professional victory at the Kraft Nabisco Championship, in which she defeated the number one world ranked women’s golfer and defending champion Yani Tseng. With a professional career win now under her belt, Lewis made her Solheim Cup debut in 2011, where she qualified second for the US team.

Lewis’s career began to really take off in 2012 when she won four tournaments and became the first American since 1994 to win the LPGA Player of the Year Award. Not allowing her increased recognition to slow her down, Lewis won three more times in 2013 and replaced Yani Tseng as the number one world ranked woman golfer, just after placing first at the RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup. Despite losing her ranking four weeks later in April, Lewis won her second major title at the Women’s British Open in August, defeating Na Yeon Choi and Hee Young Park.

On the journey towards reclaiming her number one world ranking in 2014, Lewis won her ninth official victory on tour at the 2014 North Texas LPGA Shootout, and went on to win the ShopRite LPGA Classic. With her impressive record, Lewis again flew up the rankings as the number world ranked woman’s professional golfer before finishing the US Women’s Open in Pinehurst as the runner-up. Her most recent victory as the number one seed was at the Walmart Arkansas Championship June 29th, likely with more career wins ahead of her and plenty of sports speaker opportunities.
