Sports Speaker Ryne Sandberg is currently the manager of the Philadelphia Phillies in the MLB. Ryne was a standout second baseman for both the Phillies and the Chicago Cubs during his 16-year career. Ryne spent 15 of those seasons with the Cubs. Cool, calm and collected describes the man who ate bounding ground balls for breakfast in the infield. His .989 career fielding percentage is the highest percentage in MLB history by a second baseman. After his playing days were over, Ryne was a celebrity spokesperson for companies including National City Bank and worked as a baseball columnist for Yahoo! Sports. He is currently the only Hall of Famer player managing in the MLB.

Sports Speaker Ryne Sandberg was a football prospect set on attending Washington State University on a football scholarship before the Phillies drafted him in the 20th round of the 1978 MLB Draft. He quickly changed his mind and decided to follow his major league dreams. 3 years later he was making his MLB debut at shortstop for the Phillies. But the Phillies had a stacked roster in the infield and would ultimately trade Ryne to the Cubs the following season.

He found a home in Chicago at second base. In 1984, Ryne had a breakout season finishing with 200 hits, 114 runs, 19 home runs, 84 RBIs and a National League MVP award. Hitters had trouble getting anything by Ryne in the field and he would go on to win 9 consecutive Gold Gloves from 1983-1991. He is 1 of only 3 second baseman in history to hit 40 home runs in a season after accomplishing the feat in 1990. Ryne retired from baseball in 1997.

Ryne got back into the game as a minor league manager from 2007-2010 in the Cubs organization. He  eventually signed on with the Phillies to manage their top minor league team and was awarded the Minor League Manager of the Year award in 2011. In 2013, Ryne was promoted to third base coach of the MLB Phillies and soon took over as interim manager when Charlie Manuel was fired. He has since been signed as the permanent manager with a contract through 2017.

Ryne and his wife Margaret started their own foundation, Ryno Kid Care to help provide care for children with serious diseases. Ryno Kid Care provides home-cooked meals, Big Brother sponsorships, massage therapies and other tactics to cheer up the sick children.

Sports Speaker Ryne Sandberg is an incredible role model and the greatest second baseman ever to play in the major leagues.
