Ronda Rousey can pack a punch, and that is why she is one of mixed martial art’s greatest athletes. Two years later, Celebrity Sports Speaker Ronda was rewriting the history books as the first U.S. athlete to win two Junior World Championship medals—but she didn’t stop there. At the 2008 Beijing Olympics Ronda walked away with a bronze medal, becoming the first American woman to win any Olympic medal in the history of women’s judo, which was added as an Olympic sport in 1992. Despite her success in judo and pioneering the sport for women behind her, Ronda made the transition to mixed martial arts at the age of 22 to do something even more unconventional.
