Keynote Speaker Rollie Fingers was a memorable relief pitcher in the MLB. He played for 3 teams during his career starting with the Oakland Athletics and eventually pitching for the Sand Diego Padres and the Milwaukee Brewers. Rollie is easily recognized by his signature curled handlebar mustache which he began growing in Oakland to win a bet with his owner. He still sports the familiar facial hair to this day. Over the course of 17 seasons in the MLB, Sports Keynote Speaker Rollie Fingers is credited with helping to define a new role for talented pitchers who took control of the game in late innings now known in the modern era as a closer.

Rollie worked his way through the Oakland A’s farm system in the late 60’s. He was used mostly as a starting pitcher before A’s management moved him to the bullpen as a relief pitcher. He began to be used most heavily in the 7th inning or later, providing the A’s with a lively arm in late innings capable of shutting down opposing teams with ease. As a closer, Rollie recorded 341 career saves. He was a driving force behind the A’s back-to-back-to-back World Series titles in 1972, 1973 and 1974. Later in his career he took home the AL Cy Young Award and the AL MVP Award as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers.

After retiring from the game in 1985, both the A’s and the Brewers have retired Rollie’s #34 jersey. He is 1 of only 5 relief pitchers including the likes of Goose Gossage and Dennis Eckersley to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. His outgoing personality served him well in recent ad campaigns for Pepsi Max soda in 2011.

Keynote Speaker Rollie Fingers is available for meet & greets, autograph signings, charity golf events, keynote speaking engagements and other personal appearance opportunities.
