Robinson Cano is a Dominican American professional baseball player most notably as a second baseman for the New York Yankees. In the 2013 offseason, Robinson was signed to hip-hop mogul Jay-Z’s new sports agency Roc Nation Sports which also handles NBA superstar Kevin Durant. With the help of his new agent he has signed a 10-year, $240 million contract with the Seattle Mariners. Robinson has been to the All-Star Game 5 times, been awarded 5 Silver Slugger Awards and has a World Series ring to boot that he won in 2009. Robinson serves as a role model for many back in his home country and his performance on the 2013 Dominican Republic team that won the World Baseball Classic earned him MVP of the tournament.

Sports Speaker Robinson grew up in the Dominican Republic and was drafted straight out of high school by the Yankees in 2001. Robinson would spend 4 years in the Yankees minor league system and appeared in the 2003 All-Star Futures Game. He was called up to the majors in 2005 and his smooth swing and nifty glove work in the field has propelled him to be one of the best second baseman in the game right now. He has been heralded for his power and won the 2011 All-Star Home Run Derby. His solid career in New York should carry over to his new team Seattle and he is once again expected to be among the league’s top hitters in every category.

Robinson’s philanthropy off the field centers on his home country and the support of children in need. The RC24 Foundation helps reach out to underprivileged children in the New York and Dominican Republic through initiatives to improve youth development and community health care. Robinson has also been involved with the Red Cross and was named to their National Celebrity Cabinet in 2008.
