The world of sports entertainment and the media covering it is riddle with powerful male sports speakers and analysts, but Rachel Nichols has quietly become one of the most influential journalists in sports. ABC News anchor Diane Sawyer is well-known as the reigning queen of the investigative interview in worldly news, and Rachel Nichols is the Diane Sawyer of the sports world with a sweet disposition. Many may recognize Sports Speaker Rachel from her years covering different sports at ESPN and now the talented sports reporter hosts her own investigative sports show on CNN called Unguarded with Rachel Nichols. Aside from her duties as a reporter and anchor with CNN, Rachel is also a part of CNN affiliate Turner Sports and their sports broadcasts.

Her journalism career began as a student at Northwestern University where she would work as an intern for the Washington Post as well as the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel. She was offered a job at the Sun-Sentinel straight out of college and worked with the paper for a year before taking a job with the Washington Post a year later and began to develop her skills as a TV reporter. She would eventually land her familiar position with ESPN and was with the network until the beginning of 2013 when she signed on with CNN and Turner Sports.

During her 9 year tenure with ESPN, Rachel was a part of several major broadcasts for the show aside from her role as a correspondent for ESPN’s flagship program, SportsCenter. Rachel had a hand in Sunday NFL Countdown, NBA Countdown, and the investigative sports reporting series E:60. She was also utilized as a sideline reporter for a number of Monday Night Football broadcasts.

Her new gig as an anchor with CNN has allowed her to create her own niche space in the sports media world covering the biggest stories and social issues in sports. Some of her Unguarded interviews to date including a piece with Los Angeles Clippers head coach Doc Rivers regarding the Donald Sterling incident, a discussion with Floyd Mayweather regarding his past domestic violence issues and an interview with Cincinnati Bengals lineman Devon Still discussing his daughters inspiring battle with cancer.
