The Nick Saban era is truly upon us. After winning three BCS National Championships in a row, there is no doubt that head coach, golf aficionado, and sports speaker Nick Saban is one of the best coaches, if not the best coach, in the game today. His career commenced upon his graduation from Kent State, where he became a graduate assistant while waiting for his wife to graduate. He was one of the assistant coaches for many other teams, including Syracuse, West Virginia, Ohio State, Navy and Michigan State. He also coached three professional teams, as assistant for the Houston Oilers and Cleveland Browns, and as head coach for the Miami Dolphins. His first opportunity as head coach came at the University of Toledo, where he led the team to co-champion the Mid-American Conference. The next year he coached under Bill Belichick for the Browns. He returned to college football in order to be the head coach of Michigan State, where he brought the team their first winning season in over half of a decade. From there he moved on to Louisiana State University, where he led the state to many bowl games and a BCS National Championship win. After a two-year stint with the Miami Dolphins, Saban became the head coach of Alabama. After a slow start, the Alabama-Saban train got going full steam ahead – and didn’t slow down. In the four years between 2009 and 2012, Saban led the team to four bowl games, and to three BCS National Championship wins. In his career, he has won 14 coach of the year awards, four National Championships with two different teams, and 15 bowl games. Renowned as a master coach, tactician, and strategist, and for his commitment to building one of the best all-around college football programs in the country.
