Biography:

Olympic Motivational Speaker Missy Franklin is a professional swimmer best known for her incredible performance at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. She was just 17 years old when she dazzled the world with her stamina and speed in the water. Missy won a total of 5 Olympic Medals, 4 of them Gold, and set the world record in the 200 meter backstroke event. She was named Swimming World’s World Swimmer of the Year and American Swimmer of the Year that year. In 2015, Missy announced she was officially going pro after a stellar season in the water for the University of California at Berkeley.

Missy’s first swimming world title came in 2011, when she competed in the World Aquatics Championships in Shanghai. She set the national record for her 200-meter freestyle in the semi-finals and went on to break her own previously set national record and win gold, making this her first individual world title. Her efforts in Shanghai won her recognition at the Golden Goggle Awards. She was awarded Female Athlete of the Year, Female Race of the Year and Relay Performance of the year. She later set the first world record of her swimming career at the 2011 FINA Swimming World Cup for the 200-meter backstroke.

Missy missed out on a host of endorsement opportunities following her big performance at the 2012 Olympic Games. She instead chose to revel in the opportunity to swim for her college team and lead Cal to the NCAA overall championship title in 2015. Following the NCAA Championships, Missy announced it was time for her to focus on Team USA and that she was going pro. When Missy the Missile, as her dad likes to call her, isn’t swimming, she devotes her time to helping others. She is an ambassador for Swim for Multiple Sclerosis which is an ongoing fundraiser to raise awareness and support for those with MS to exercise. She also supports the clean water initiative, One Drop USA.
