Mike Modano was arguably the greatest American Hockey player of all-time.  Throughout his 21-year NHL career, Modano achieved statistical feats that nobody from his country had ever reached before.  Hailing from the hockey crazed state of Michigan, Modano had ice in his veins from a very young age.  His love for the game and natural talent made Mike an instant success on the rink, earning him the honor of being the 1st overall selection by the Minnesota North Stars in the 1988 NHL Draft.  He was just the 2nd American at the time to be drafted first.

Sports Speaker Mike began his NHL career in 1989 and immediately asserted himself as one of the top young talents in the league.  His career in Minnesota yield two 30-goal seasons, and laid the groundwork for his future success.  In 1993 Minnesota relocated to Dallas under the new name the Dallas Stars.  This happened to be Modano’s most successful personal season in the NHL scoring 50 goals for the only time in his career.  Mike would go on to play 15 more very productive seasons with the Dallas Star.  The climax of his time with the Dallas club came in the 1999 Stanley Cup Playoffs when Modano led the Stars to their 1st and only Stanley Cup.  During his 21-year NHL career Modano he was voted to 7-All Star games.  He also scored more goals (561) and had more points (1374) than any other American player ever.

Off the ice, Mike has been a significant presence in the community.  He founded his own charity; the Mike Modano Foundation inc. that aims to help children affected by child abuse, canine rescue, and the Wounded Warrior Project.  Modano currently works for the business operations department for the Dallas Stars and utilizes his celebrity to attract local businesses to the team.  He is also a spokesperson for Zodiac watches.
