It comes as no shock that Sports Speaker Michael Jordan is quite arguably the best basketball player of all time. Throughout his career, Jordan has received countless honors and awards. He is known for his high-flying moves and frequent game-winning shots which resulted in an unprecedented 6 NBA Championships. Jordan’s ability to defy physics with his jaw-dropping slam-dunk skills coined him the nicknames “MJ”, “Air Jordan” and “His Airness”.

Michael Jordan decided to cut his college career short after being drafted to the Chicago Bulls in 1984. Immediately, a star was born. He was named Rookie of the Year and selected to appear in his first of fourteen NBA All-Star games. In the following years, he won five regular season MVPs, six NBA finals MVPs and NBA championships, three All-Star game MVPs and even racked up sixty-three points in a playoff game against the Boston Celtics, a record that has yet to be broken. But, it doesn’t stop here. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame twice for his individual career as well as a member of the 1992 U.S. Men’s Olympic Basketball team, otherwise known as “The Dream Team”. Additional star members of the team include former NBA players Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and David Johnson.

Jordan is known for his power on and off the court. He’s scored endorsement deals with major companies such as Nike, Hanes and Gatorade. Nike created “Air Jordan”, a signature shoe that is still widely popular today. The Jordan Brand was born years after and continues to sponsor college sports programs and Gatorade has featured him in over twenty commercials since 1991.

Michael Jordan has also been associated with the Looney Tunes characters. Nike produced a commercial during the 1992 Super Bowl that featured Jordan and Bugs Bunny playing basketball. This commercial inspired the live action/animated sports comedy film Space Jam, which is a fictional account of Jordan’s first retirement. Since then, they have been featured in several more commercials together and Jordan made a cameo appearance in the 2003 Looney Tunes: Back in Action film.

Recently, Forbes Magazine ranked Jordan twentieth most powerful celebrity in the world. He has become majority owner of the Charlotte Hornets, making him the league’s first former NBA player and African-American majority holder.

Outside of work, Jordan is involved with several charity foundations including Boys & Girls of America, Livestrong, and Make-a-Wish Foundation just to name a few. Not only did Michael reinvent basketball with his outstanding skills and ability, but he is an inspiration to children and adults today. Michael Jordan is truly a legacy on and off the court.
