Maya Moore is an American professional basketball player, and was first overall pick in the 2011 WNBA Draft. She currently plays for the Minnesota Lynx of the WNBA and the Shanxi Falem in the Chinese League. Since her career began, she has racked up multiple championships, All-American, and MVP honors, as well as becoming one of the elite women’s players to have won an NCAA title, a WNBA championship and an Olympic gold, joining fellow Huskie alum’s Kara Walters and Diana Taurasi and other basketball greats including Tamika Catchings and Sherly Swoopes.

With Maya’s impressive first overall draft pick in 2011, she joined the Minnesota Lynx alongside all-star players Seimone Augustus and Lindsay Whalen, receiving the Rookie of the Year honor at the end of the season, as well as being an All-Star starter. In this same season, she became the second number one draft pick to help lead her team to its first WNBA Championship and the first female basketball player to sign with the Jordan Brand. In 2012, she helped the Lynx advance to the 2012 WNBA finals for the second straight season, and in 2013, she had a career year, leading the Lynx in points and becoming the first WNBA player in history to lead the league in both three-pointers and three-point shooting percentage. The Lynx swept the playoffs, winning their second WNBA championship, where Maya was named WNBA Finals MVP. Maya also plays for the Shanxi Flame in China, where she led the team to its first ever WBCA championship title.

Besides her remarkable WNBA career, sports speaker Maya Moore has Olympic gold under her belt with Team USA. In the fall of 2009, Moore was invited to the USA Basketball Women’s National team training camp, being one of only three college players and the only junior invited to the camp, where the players for the FIBA World Championship and 2012 Olympics are usually chosen from. She proved both to be true, winning the championship and gold medal for Team USA in the FIBA World Championship and the gold for Team USA in the London Olympics in summer 2012.

Aside from her distinguished career on the court, Maya represents the Jordan Brand, the wildly popular sneaker company owned by Nike that is centered around Michael Jordan. Being chosen to represent the brand by Michael himself, Maya shares this honor with some of the best basketball players in the world, including Dwayne Wade, Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony. This deal not only brought a lot of positive attention to women’s basketball, but also served as a breakthrough for female athletes who are trying to achieve higher marketability.
