From selling garbage bags in order to buy a new pair of kicks to the multi-billionaire owner of the Dallas Mavericks, sports speaker Mark Cuban is one of the most successful businessmen, investors, and sports figures in the world. He skipped his senior year of high school in order to go straight into college at the University of Pittsburgh, and after a year transferring into Indiana University. In 1990, he made his first millions after selling his own tech start-up, MicroSolutions, to CompuServe for $6 million. In 1995, Cuban and his friend Todd Wagner formed Audionet, an online music streaming service. It was renamed and sold to Yahoo! in 1999 for $5.7 billion. Continuing to work with Wagner, Cuban bought the company Landmark Theatres, a chain of 58 arthouse movie theatres. Cuban also co-founded AXS TV, the first high definition satellite television network. Since 2000, Cuban has been the owner of the Dallas Mavericks. Under his ownership, the team has done considerably better than in their previous years, even leading the team to its first trip to the NBA finals. He has expressed interest in the possibility of owning a baseball team, placing bids for the Cubs, the Rangers, the Mets, and the Dodgers. In 2004, Cuban starred on the ABC series The Benefactor. He is the founder, owner, or major investor of many businesses, ranging from telecommunications, to sports technology, to film distribution agencies. Cuban has written two books. The first, a children’s book, is titled “Let’s Go Mavs!” He also wrote a book titled “How to Win at the Sport of Business: If I Can Do It, You Can Do It”. Since the second season in 2012 of the reality business show, Shark Tank, Cuban has been one of the sharks looking to invest in prospecting entrepreneurs.
