Biography:

Sports Speaker Manny Pacquiao is a professional boxer and politician. He is the only boxer to win world championships in eight divisions, as well as the first man to win the lineal championship in four different weight classes. Pacquiao is a three-time BWAA “Fighter of The Year” and a two-time ESPY award winner for Best Fighter. He was named the “Fighter of the Decade” for the 2000s by the Boxing Writers Association of America, World Boxing Council, and World Boxing Organization. In 2010, Pacquiao was elected to the House of Representatives in the 15th Congress of the Philippines, representing Sarangani. He was named to Time Magazine’s Most Influential People list in 2009 for his remarkable boxing achievements and for serving as an inspiration to the citizens of the Philippines.

In 1998, Pacquiao won a fight against Chatchai Sasakul of Thailand to win the World Boxing Council’s flyweight title; this was his first major championship. The following year, Pacquiao defended his flyweight title and also won the WBC Super Bantamweight title. Pacquiao would continue his success, capturing major championships in the super featherweight, lightweight, welterweight, and light middleweight divisions. Over the span of his career, Pacquiao has posted a remarkable 55-5 record with 38 knockouts. His domination in the boxing world has led him to be considered one of the best boxers in the world for much of his career by ESPN, Sports Illustrated, The Ring, and other publications.

Off the court, Pacquiao has endorsed a variety of companies, including Nike, Monster Energy, and Hennessy. He has also starred in the sitcom Show Me Da Manny and has appeared as an extra in some local films, such as Wapakman and Licensed Fist. In 2010, Pacquiao was named congressman of Sarangani in a landslide victory over his competitor; he ran unopposed in 2013. A film based on Pacquiao’s life was released in 2006 entitled Pacquiao: The Movie. Pacquiao has written an autobiography entitled Pacman: My Story of Hope, Resilience, and Never-Say-Never Determination, which delves into his remarkable rags to riches life story.
