Biography:

Sports motivational speaker for hire Lynn Swann is a former Pittsburgh Steelers wide-receiver who helped lead the team to 4 Super Bowl victories from 1974-1982. He spent his entire NFL career with the Steelers and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2001. Lynn has gone on to become a successful businessman, politician and currently works as the athletic director for his alma mater, the University of Southern California (USC).

Lynn was an All-American standout at USC and was selected with the 21st overall pick by the Steelers in the first round of the 1974 NFL Draft. He teamed up with future Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw to create an all but unstoppable 1-2 punch on offense for the Steelers complimented by the famous defensive lineup touted as the Steel Curtain. Outside of his incredible speed and agility on the field, Lynn is perhaps best remembered for a miraculous catch he made in Super Bowl X against the Dallas Cowboys. Bradshaw threw a pass that was deflected by a Cowboys defender but Lynn was able to contort his body to make an incredible diving catch. This play is considered one of the Top 10 Greatest Plays in NFL History.

Lynn retired from football in 1983 and went on to serve on the board of directors for industry-leading companies including H J Heinz, Co., Wyndham International and Hershey Entertainment & Resort. He was a broadcaster for ABC Sports from 1976-2006 and covered several Olympic Games, NFL football, professional horse racing and college football among other sporting events.

Lynn’s later involvement with politics began in 2002 when George W. Bush appointed him the chairman of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition. He helped the president launch presidentschallenge.org for kids and was also involved in declaring May as an annual National Physical Fitness and Sports month. He retired from the position in 2005 to begin his campaign for Governor of Pennsylvania in which he won the Republican nomination. In recent years, Lynn has provided campaign support to several Republican nominees for president including John McCain, Mitt Romney and Jeb Bush. In April of 2016, he was named the athletic director at USC.
