His efforts won him the NBA’s 6th man of the year in 1984 and 1985, becoming the first player to ever win the award in consecutive years. Kevin became a permanent starter in the lineup in 1985 and the next year the Celtics reclaimed the NBA championship in 6 games over the Houston Rockets. The 1986-1987 was Kevin’s best individual season, setting career highs in points (26.1) and rebounds (9.9) while becoming the first player to shoot above .600 (.604) and .800 on free-throws (.836) in a season. Kevin’s playing career came to an end at the conclusion of the 1992-1993 season after battling a myriad of injuries. Over his 13 year span with the Celtics, Kevin was a 3-time NBA champ, a 7-time NBA All-Star, selected to the NBA All-Defensive team 3 times and the All-NBA First-Team once. Kevin’s #32 jersey was retired by the Celtics as one of the greatest players in the organization’s history.
