Baseball Motivational Speaker John Smoltz will forever live in Atlanta Braves lore as a part of the Braves dynasty that featured manager Bobby Cox and fellow pitchers Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine. The Braves were perennial pennant winners during the 1990’s highlighted by a World Series title in 1995. The Braves honored his dedication as well his astounding career by retiring his jersey in 2012. In 2015, he reached the pinnacle of success in baseball and was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame. Since his retirement, John now works as a sportscaster for FOX Sports.

John was drafted straight out of high school in Michigan by the Detroit Tigers in 1985. John worked his way through the Tigers’ minor league system and was traded to the Braves in 1987. He would spend the next 20 years with the organization. During this stretch he made 8 All-Star appearances on behalf of the Braves and won the NL Cy Young Award in 1996.

In 2000 Smoltz went under the knife and had Tommy John surgery to rebuild his elbow. The surgery forced him to move to the bullpen as a relief pitcher. John was named the team’s go-to closer and the man the team looked to for key outs at the end of a game. In his first full season as a closer he set the MLB saves record with 55 saves. In 2002 he would take home the NL Rolaids Relief Man of the Year Award. 3 years later he was moved back into the starting rotation.

John left the Braves organization at the end of 2008 and played small stints with the Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals before retiring in 2009. John wrote a book written a book called Starting and Closing chronicling the struggles and adversity of playing major league baseball and how his faith and determination served as the backbone of his success.

After his playing days were over, Baseball Motivational Speaker John Smoltz joined the broadcast booth as a color-commentator for MLB Network and TBS. In 2014, he was hired as a featured game analyst by FOX Sports.
