Inspirational sports keynote speaker for hire Joe Namath, otherwise known as Broadway Joe, was the king of pro football as the quarterback of the New York Jets during the 1960’s and 70’s. His supreme confidence, fashion sense and flashy quarterback skills to match brought a new excitement to the game and many NFL historians tap Joe as a catalyst in growing the sports immense popularity in the early years of the Super Bowl era. He was an iconic figure on and off the field, starring in movies and blossoming into one of the most popular celebrity spokespeople in sports. In part, he paved the way for today’s football stars and the lucrative opportunities they are now afforded to sign endorsements with industry-leading companies and brands.

Joe was a multi-sport athlete in high school growing up in Pennsylvania and had several offers to go pro in baseball straight out of high school. He ultimately chose to attend the University of Alabama to get his education and play football under legendary head coach Paul “Bear” Bryant. Bryant touted Namath as the greatest athlete he ever coached, and Joe led the Crimson Tide to a National Championship during his final year with the team in 1964. He was drafted in both the NFL and AFL Drafts that same year and chose to sign with the New York Jets of the AFL who had taken him with the #1 overall pick.

He set passing records in his first season with the Jets and the biggest moment of his career came in 1969 when the Jets faced off against the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III. Namath is famous for guaranteeing a win just days before the game and went on to lead the Jets to 16-7 victory while also earning Super Bowl MVP honors in the process. Nagging knee injuries would eventually cut Joe’s career short and he officially retired in 1977.

Following retirement, Joe enjoyed success as an actor appearing in TV shows and featured films. He also guest hosted The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson several times and worked as a color commentator for NFL broadcasts. He has appeared as a spokesperson for many top companies including Ovaltine, Noxzema, Hanes and Topps and this has only added to his clout as a pop-culture icon. In 2014, Namath appeared alongside Eli and Peyton Manning in a TV commercial for DirecTV.
