Jay Bilas is one of the more revered modern basketball minds, and is a television analyst/personality for ESPN.  Bilas is known amongst basketball fans for his extensive knowledge of the game and unique social media presence.  Sports Speaker Jay started for 4 seasons at Duke University under Mike Krzyzewski from 1982-1986.  Bilas earned a degree in political science from Duke, and would go on to play basketball professionally oversees in Europe before returning to the United States to pursue his law degree.

Jay Bilas returned to Duke University in 1990 as a graduate law student, and simultaneously served as an assistant coach for the Duke men’s basketball team.  He remained there for 3 years before departing to begin his career as a practicing lawyer.  In 1995 Bilas began his broadcasting career with ESPN as a color commentator and studio analyst.  He has served as a co-host and studio analyst on ESPN’s college basketball programming including College Gameday, College GameNight, and Bracketology starting in 2000.  From 2003-2010 Bilas was a color commentator for NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament for CBS Sports.  Currently, he works as a color commentator alongside Sean McDonough during the NCAA Division I regular season.

Bilas is also known for his presence on social media.  Every morning he posts lyrics from hip-hop artist Young Jeezy on Twitter, which has helped create a cult following for Bilas on the Internet.  Jay is also very outspoken against the NCAA and its treatment of student athletes.  He believes student-athletes should be paid, and the NCAA exploits them in a variety of ways including the denial of transfer requests.  Jay is still a practicing lawyer, and resides in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is married to his wife Wendy, and they have two children.  His book Toughness, was released in 2013, and a variety of companies have endorsed Bilas including Dove Men +Care.  An accomplished speaker, Bilas delivered the 2014 commencement speech at Queen’s University.
