Geno Auriemma is one of the world’s key figures in the lens of women’s sport.  Revered as one of the best basketball coaches ever, Geno is one of the world’s most successful sports leaders.  Auriemma has only held a single head coaching position, University of Connecticut Women’s Basketball, in his career and his unquestioned loyalty to the program has made it the best of its kind in women’s basketball.

Sports Speaker Geno first took the Connecticut job in 1985, and hasn’t looked back since.  He immediately established a culture of success for the Huskies, and they are now the premier women’s basketball programs in the nation.  Over the last 21 seasons, Auriemma has led UConn to the NCAA Tournament every season.  During this time span, UConn has also won 9 National Championships and completed 4 perfect undefeated seasons under Geno’s leadership.  His success is unparalleled in any college sport, and he is the all-time leader in NCAA Division I Championships for a Women’s coach.   His contribution to the overall growth of women’s sport is immense, and he’s coached some of the worlds greatest female athletes like Sue Bird, Maya Moore, Diana Taurasi and Rebecca Lobo.  Geno has been named the Naismith Coach of Year 6-times during his career and he’s on the short list of Division I basketball coaches to reach the 800-win plateau.  IN 2006 Geno was inducted in the National Basketball Hall of Fame, and was the gold-medal winning coach for the 2012 Olympic Games.

Geno Auriemma is also a pillar in the community, and has been a catalyst on the topic of women’s sports.  He is on the Board of Directors for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, and runs his own charity golf tournament called “Fore the Kids” which has raised over a million dollars.
