Welsh footballer, Gareth Bale, plays for one of the most prestigious clubs in the world, Real Madrid. The left back and free kick specialist began his club career playing in Barclay’s premier league, first for Southampton, then Tottenham Hotspur in 2007. During his years at Tottenham, he changed positions to offense becoming a left-winger. With this change, he began to rise to international fame, quickly making a name for himself as one of the quickest and fittest players on the pitch. Some have even put him in the same class as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. After impressive performances in the UEFA Champions League, he was named Professional Footballers Association Players’ Player of the year in 2011 and again in 2013, as well as being named in the UEFA Team of the Year. To add to his list of accolades, the football star was also named PFA Young Player of the Year and the FWA Footballer of the Year in 2013. Following his achievements in the Barclay’s league, Bale made the decision to transfer to Real Madrid of La Liga. Following the transfer, it was revealed by the Spanish press that he signed for a world record fee of 100 million euros, beating out soccer great Cristiano Ronaldo’s transfer fee. Gareth proved to be worth the money, as he helped lead Real Madrid to win both the Copa del Rey and the Champions League, scoring goals in both finals.

Like any high caliber athlete, sports speaker Gareth Bale’s talents in his sport have brought many endorsement deals.  Several companies currently sponsor him, including Adidas, EA Sports, Lucozade and BT Sport, with his money earned from endorsements almost totaling his yearly salary with Real Madrid. In 2013, EA Sports featured Bale on the cover of popular video game FIFA 14 in Great Britain, Ireland, and the Middle East, alongside worldwide cover star Lionel Messi.  Gareth Bale, in fact, has become such a sensation in the football community that he has even filed an application with the Intellectual Property Office to register a logo based on his signature heart goal celebration and jersey number 11 to be used on merchandise such as clothing and footwear.
