Biography:

A woman of many talents, professional volleyball player and sports speaker Gabrielle Reece is making waves in the sports, modeling, film, and writing industries. Reece’s beach volleyball career took off in 1997 at the first ever Beach Volleyball World Championship when her four-person Women’s Beach Volleyball League team won the tournament. With 1997 being her fifth season as the team captain of the four-person team, and her fourth season as the captain of Team Nike, it was clear that Reece housed a surplus of talent.  Even before her big win, Reece led the team in kills for four consecutive years, and was named the Offensive Player of the Year 1994 and 1995, as well as the WBVL blocks leader. After successfully competing internationally in 1997, Reece played in the 1999 and 2000 Olympic Four on Four Challenge Series, as well as the 1999 and 2000 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour.

With a six foot, three inch frame that proved so helpful in beach volleyball, Reece decided to enter the modeling industry while still attending college at Florida State University. Throughout the 1980’s and the 1990’s, Reece appeared in numerous issues of Elle, even being named as one of the magazine’s five most beautiful people in the world in 1989. She has also appeared in magazines such as Shape, Women’s Sport and Fitness, as well as Life.

Reece has even ventured into the film industry, appearing in movies such as Gattaca and Cloud Nine, in addition to several guest appearances on television shows such as 8 Simple Rules and America’s Next Top Model. With an innate talent for inspiring others, she co-wrote a book with Karen Karbo about her life as a pro-athlete, entitled Big Girl in the Middle. She also authored a column for Women’s Sport and Fitness, in addition to acting as a contributing editor at Elle magazine. Most recently, Reece has further demonstrated her speaking talents in her 2013 book My Foot is Too Big for the Glass Slipper: A Guide to the Less Than Perfect Life.
