Floyd Mayweather is an American professional boxer and if he’s not busy knocking out opponents in the ring he can be seen mucking it up with the entertainment world’s top stars. He is recognized as the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world and his ability has helped earn him a spot on Forbes and Sports Illustrated magazine’s 50 highest paid athletes list. His clout is well deserved as he presently holds a 45-0 record in his professional career with 26 decisions decided by knockout. Floyd has been able to win 8 world titles in 3 different weight classes and is the World Boxing Championship welterweight and superweight champion and World Boxing Association’s super welterweight champion.

Sports Speaker Floyd pursued a life in boxing after his father and uncles had been champion boxers and he saw the sport as an outlet from a difficult childhood in Grand Rapids, Michigan. His amateur career was almost as impressive as his now undefeated professional career and his performance in the 1996 Olympics earned him a bronze medal in the featherweight division at just 19 years old. In 1998 he won his first world title in the WBC super featherweight and one of his most memorable fights was his defeat of fellow undefeated champion Diego Corrales to solidify himself as one of boxing’s up and coming stars. Every one of Floyd’s fights is broadcast on pay-per-view TV now after he has defeated some of the biggest names in boxing including Oscar De La Hoya, Shane Mosley, and handing out the first loss to Saul Alvarez in his most recent fight in September of 2013.

Floyd has won a lot of money for his fights earning an average of $40 million per fight, and he is actively involved in philanthropic endeavors. His Floyd Mayweather Jr. Foundation gives back to the community of Las Vegas through initiatives and programs to better youth development and education while also providing women of all ages with mentoring programs. He also recently donated a large amount of money to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for cancer research.
