Eddie Reese has taught many swimmers exactly what they needed to know to be successful in the sport. Whether it is Olympic athletes or his college students he has been a positive influence in each of their lives. He knows what it takes to win in the water and continues to coach his teams to important matches and championships each year.

Sports speaker Eddie Reese started his swimming career in high school and continued swimming in college at the University of Florida in Gainesville. He led the Gators to three consecutive SEC team championships. He also became the first Florida swimmer to win five separate SEC titles in the same season. After graduation Eddie decided to stay on the Florida team as an assistant coach for a number of years. This experience gave him the opportunity to interview for the Auburn Head Coaching position which he acquired. Up until Eddie came in as coach Auburn had not had an individual swimmer place in the SEC or NCAA championships. After his career there were four top ten showings in a row in the NCAA championship. In 1978 Eddie accept the coaching job at the University of Texas and continued his reign in the swimming world. His Longhorn teams have won 10 NCAA championships since he has been there. Eddie has coached several Olympic swimmers which include Brendan Hansen, Ian Crocker, and Aaron Peirsol. Reese has a few notches on his high-quality coaching belt which comprise 29 Olympic swimmers who have obtained 39 gold medals.

Eddie’s coaching resume precedes him. His coaching philosophy of, “More to Accomplish” is why he has had 50 prosperous seasons as a swim coach. NCAA Coach of the Year, being inducted in the University of Texas Hall of Fame, Longhorn Hall of Honor, and International Swimming Hall of Fame are great explanations as to why he can be considered one of the greatest swim coaches of all time.
