Legendary player and coach Don Shula of the National Football League is easily considered one of the league’s greatest and classiest coaches in its history. In his 36 years as a head coach, Don is the all-time leader in wins with 347 and also ranks first in most games coached at 526 and most consecutive seasons coached. During his coaching career he lead his teams to win 7 NFC Conference titles and his most notable stint as a head coach with the Miami Dolphins produced back to back Super Bowl titles in 1972 and 1973. He was named Sports Illustrated’s Sportsman of the Year in 1993 and is the only coach ever to lead an NFL team to a perfect season without a loss with his team’s 1972, 17-0 finish.

During his playing days with the Cleveland Browns, Sports Speaker Don served in the Ohio National guard during the Korean War. He went on to play 7 years in the NFL as a defensive back before his retirement and move into the college coaching ranks. His first NFL head coaching job was with the Baltimore Colts behind iconic quarterback Johnny Unitas before he moved to the Miami Dolphins for the majority of his career from 1970-1995. He was named the NFL Coach of the Year 6 times during his career and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1997.

Since retiring from coaching, Don has been utilized as a spokesperson in many ad campaigns including joining his former Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino in spots for weight loss program NutriSystem, and was featured in a Budweiser Super Bowl commercial in 2007. He owns a chain of steakhouses that bear his name as well as a hotel complete with spa and golf course in Miami Lakes, Florida. In 2011 he was awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor for his humanitarian efforts in the community of Miami.
