Derek Jeter is a professional baseball player who has played his whole career at shortstop for the New York Yankees. Derek has been a part of a Yankee dynasty that has won 5 World Series titles his first in 1996 and his latest in 2009. The other 3 titles came in 3 consecutive years in 1998, 1999, and 2000. Derek will go down as one of the greatest Yankees to ever play the game and is the team’s all-time career leader in hits, games played, stolen bases, and at-bats. He is 1 of 28 players ever to reach the 3,000 hit bench mark and is the MLB’s all-time leader in hits by a shortstop.

He was selected 6th overall in the draft that year by the Yankees and wouldn’t slow down. Derek would play 4 years of minor league ball to help develop his skills and scrawny build and made his debut as the Yankees shortstop on Opening Day of the 1996 season. He was voted the American League Rookie of the Year and impressive play in the playoffs help lead the Yankees to the World Series title in his first year. He has spent the last 19 seasons with the Yankees and accrued 13 All-Star appearances, 5 Silver Slugger and Gold Glove awards, and team captain duties since the 2003 season.

Derek is a popular athlete in the sports world outside of baseball and won the 2007 ESPY Award for Best Baseball Player. His major endorsement deals include his own Jordan cleats and apparel, and commercial spots with Visa and Gatorade among others. His philanthropic endeavors include his Turn 2 Foundation committed to helping children and teenagers avoid drug and alcohol problems and perform well in the classroom. He has made several cameo appearances in movies like The Other Guys staring Mark Walberg and Will Ferrell and has also made TV appearances such as the host of Saturday Night Live.
