David Robinson is a former NBA center for the San Antonio Spurs. Robinson was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009. He became the only player from the Navy to enter the NBA, and he is considered to be among the greatest centers in NBA history.

While Robinson hadn’t played organized basketball or attended any basketball camps before his senior year of high school, he developed into a remarkable athlete at the Naval Academy. In his final year of college, Robinson earned the Naismith and Wooden Awards. In addition, he was a consensus All-American his final two years of college. After Robinson was selected first overall in the NBA draft by the San Antonio Spurs, his impact was immediate and tremendous. Behind Robinson’s stellar play, the Spurs had one of the greatest single season turnarounds in NBA history, improving their record with 35 more wins than the previous year. After leading the Spurs to the second round of the playoffs, Robinson was unanimously named the NBA Rookie of the Year. The Spurs went on to make the playoffs seven more seasons in a row. Robinson also made the 1992 U.S. Olympic Dream Team that won the gold medal in Barcelona. The following year, Robinson won the 1993-1994 season scoring title, and he broke the Spurs’ franchise record for points in one game with 71 against the Los Angeles Lakers. In 1995, Robinson won the MVP trophy and in 1996, Robinson was named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History. Finally in the 1998-1999 season, Robinson achieved his dream of winning an NBA Title with a stacked Spurs team that went 15-2 in the playoffs. In Robinson’s final season, the Spurs won another NBA title, and Robinson shared Sports Illustrated magazine’s 2003 Sportsmen of the Year award with Tim Duncan. Over the span of his career, Robinson averaged 21.1 points per game, 10.7 rebounds per game, 3 blocks per game, and 2.5 assists per game. In addition, Robinson joined an elite group of NBA star players by scoring over 20,000 points during his career.
