David Ortiz is a Dominican-American baseball player for the Boston Red Sox in Major League Baseball. Arguably the greatest designated hitter to ever play the game, the man know around the sports world as “Big Papi” has a heart even greater than the records he has set on the diamond. David recently won his 3rd World Series title in which he was also named the World Series MVP for the first time in his career. Getting better with age, David has set the record for most hits, home runs and runs batted in by a designated hitter, records he continues to increase with each swing of the bat. In 2009, The Sporting News named David the Designated hitter of the Decade and Sports Illustrated named him to the All-Decade team.

Sports Speaker David broke into the major leagues in 1997 and spent 6 seasons with the team playing both first base and as the designated hitter. After battling some injuries and setbacks he was traded to the Boston Red Sox and was a huge part of the World Series team that broke the Red Sox supposed curse of 86 years without a World Series title in 2004. The 9-time All-star would go on to set the Red Sox franchise record for home runs in a season with 54 in 2006, and won the Silver Slugger award six times as the best hitter at his position in the American League. During his time with the Red Sox he has enjoyed multiple endorsement deals including the making of his own baseball cleat by Reebok, which first debuted in 2007.

Off the diamond David is very involved with his community and his homeland the Dominican Republic. He was awarded the Roberto Clemente Award by the MLB in 2011 for his achievements and philanthropic work through his foundation the David Ortiz Children’s Fund. The foundation raises funds for children in need in both the northeastern United States and the Dominican Republic.
