For Sports Speaker Dante Exum, basketball runs in the family—his father Cecil Exum played for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and also won an NCAA championship in 1982 alongside Michael Jordan and James Worthy. After being drafted by the Denver Nuggets, the senior Exum relocated to play professionally for the National Basketball League of Australia. It wasn’t long before his son Dante started his own career in basketball, rising up to become one of the top players and recruits in the world. Dante entered the 2014 NBA Draft as the dark horse prospect since most people in America had not seen him play before, but Dante quickly made his presence known to all.

After graduating from his high school in 2013, Exum made the decision not to play college basketball for the 2013-14 season, instead choosing to get a head start on his professional career. In April 2013, Exum played for the World Team in the 2013 Nike Hoop Summit, where his sixteen points, two assists, and three bounds were crucial for the team’s victory over the USA Junior Select Team. Exum also led his team to win the overall title in the Australian National High School Basketball Championships in December 2013 and January 2014.

As an international player, the point guard entered the NBA Draft as a youngster, but the mature and polished teenager is ready to shake things up in the NBA. Nonetheless, he has already signed endorsement deals with Panini, a sports and entertainment company specializing in collectibles and trading cards, and with Adidas, as well as appearing in a Foot Locker commercial—all before stepping foot onto an American court. Known for his quickness, control, and level-headed game, it is only a matter of time before Dante Exum is a household name.
