They say if you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen. From the Chicago Fire to his car’s firebombing in 2010, it seems American soccer super-star and sports speaker Damarcus Beasley is coping just fine. Drafted to the MLS straight out of high school, at the time he was the youngest player to ever be drafted at just 17! He was originally recruited to play winger for the Los Angeles Galaxy, but soon transferred to the Chicago Fire. Any doubts of his skills and abilities as a play went up in smoke.  Over four and a half seasons he would score 14 goals and 20 assists, which ultimately led to him winning the “MSL best XI” in 2003, which is awarded to the best 11 players in the league. In 2004, he signed a 4-year contract with the Dutch team PSV Eindhoven. Fifteen goals later, Beasley had helped the team to win two league titles. Over the next five years, he played for various teams around Europe including England’s Manchester City, Germany’s Hannover 96, and Scotland’s Rangers. While playing for the Rangers his car was lit with gasoline. In response, he took to twitter, “Someone blew up my car today. Thanks again for ALL the messages and kind words. But, yea, I’m doin’ ok and in the market for a new car! LOL. Gotta try to find some humor.” In 2011, he returned to the North American continent to play for the Mexican team Puebla.

Beasley is also a vital player for America’s national team. Including the 2014 tournament in Brail, Beasley has played in four FIFA World Cups, the only player to ever do so for the United States. During his career, he also helped America to win four CONCACAF Gold Cups in 2002, 2005, 2007, and in 2013 he captained the winning squad.
