Hall of Fame Speaker Craig Biggio is a former professional baseball player and second baseman. He played his entire 20-year career with the Houston Astros and was a fan favorite with teammate Jeff Bagwell. Craig was the consummate professional, always working to get better and always a leader in the clubhouse. He was a talented fielder that won 4 straight Gold Glove Awards from 1994-1997. His excellent fielding was complimented by his success in the batters box. Craig won 5 Silver Slugger Awards and was voted onto the NL All-Star roster 7 times. In 2015, Craig was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame with star pitchers Pedro Martinez, Randy Johnson and John Smoltz.

Many players bounce around during their professional careers due to disagreements with management or a decline in skill that causes the team to feel the need to part ways. Craig was the type of guy you wanted on your team. He is the type of guy that leads by example and he worked hard to remain a valuable asset for the Astros until his retirement in 2007. He came up in the MLB as a catcher and made his first All-Star appearance for the Astros as a catcher in 1991. Catching takes a toll on the body and the Astros convinced Craig to move to second base to save his speed. He made the All-Star team again in 1992 this time as a second baseman. He is the only player ever to appear in an All-Star game as both a catcher and second baseman. The middle infield positions are considered skill positions and catchers rarely have the ability to make such a big change but Craig made it look easy.

Craig played 1,800 straight games without an injury before suffering a season ending knee injury in 2000. He bounced back and finished his career with the Astros on a good note, eclipsing career milestones and etching his name in the record books. Craig joined the Astros front office following his retirement and worked as a special assistant to the General Manager. He has also coached high school baseball at St. Thomas High School.

Hall of Fame Speaker Craig Biggio serves as the lead celebrity spokesperson for the Sunshine Kids Foundation and has done so since his playing days with the Astros.
