Biography:

Sports Speaker Coco Vandeweghe is an American tennis star on the ATP World Tour. She has quickly become a fan favorite amongst American tennis fans for her aggressive, passionate personality on the court. At just 23-years-old, Coco represents a new breed of women’s tennis stars along with the likes of Sloane Stevens and Madison Keys. At the 2015 Wimbledon Championships, Coco fought her way to the late stages of the tournament, nearly defeating former Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova in the quarterfinals. She is known for her extremely powerful serve. Coco hit 306 aces in 2014, the third highest of any female player on the WTA World Tour.

Sports Speaker Coco Vandeweghe has an interesting family tree full of former sports stars and celebrities. She was named after her grandmother, Colleen Kay Hutchins, who won the 1952 Miss America pageant. Her grandfather Ernie Vandeweghe was a guard for the New York Knicks and her uncle Kiki Vandeweghe who was a 2-time NBA all-star. Coco’s mother Tauna was an Olympic swimmer who competed at the 1976 Olympic Games. With an incredible family history in sports, Coco was inspired by her family’s past achievements to reach her own goals as a professional tennis player.

In 2008, Coco was a wildcard selection to compete at the 2008 US Open junior singles event. She took down the competition with ease and earned the tournament title without dropping a set. Over the next few years she received wildcard invitations to compete in events on the pro tour and got her first official WTA win in 2009 at the LA Women’s Tennis Championships.

Fast-forward to 2014 and Coco was beginning to establish her presence on the WTA World Tour. She won her first WTA title at the Topshelf Open grass tournament and qualified and reached the quarterfinals in the Rogers Cup. In 2015, Coco reached the third round at the Australian Open that helped qualify her for the Wimbledon Championship.
