Chris Paul is the starting point guard for the Los Angeles Clippers in the Pacific division of the National Basketball Association. He was selected 4th overall by the New Orleans Hornets in the 2005 NBA Draft after 2 standout seasons at Wake Forest University, and went on to win the 2006 NBA Rookie of the Year award. Aside from being arguably the greatest point guard in the league today, Chris was also recently chosen to represent all his fellow players as President of the National Basketball Players Association.

Sports Speaker Chris has done some remarkable things on and off the basketball court during his life on the rise to NBA superstardom. Only a day after Chris signed his letter of intent to play basketball at Wake Forest, his grandfather and role model Nathaniel Jones was robbed and beaten to death in the carport of his home in a robbery attempt gone awry. In his next game Chris would miraculously score 61 points, a point for each year his grandfather was alive including intentionally missing a free throw after being fouled on a layup. Now in the NBA Chris is a 6-time All-star and a 3-time All-NBA First Team selection. He has also been a part of the U.S. Men’s Olympic Basketball Team that has brought home the gold medal in the last 2 Olympics in Beijing in 2008, and London in 2012. Over the course of his career Chris has been endorsed by Air Jordan which has blossomed into his own shoe line, Power Aid and State Farm Insurance. His current ad campaign with State Farm depicts Chris alongside his identical twin “Cliff” Paul who is a stellar insurance agent for State Farm.

Flashes of Chris’ character show up in other aspect of his life as well including his commitment to his hometown community. His CP3 Foundation works with many partners including the Boys and Girls Club, Habitat for Humanity, and the Make A Wish Foundation for community enriching initiatives like youth camps, court refurbishments, and the Nathaniel Jones Scholarship Fund. The scholarship provides the funds for a chosen student to go to Wake Forest University. His work with the foundation has twice earned him the NBA Community Assist Award for the player who consistently shows commitment to philanthropic and community initiatives.
