Sports Speaker Chipper Jones is a former MLB star who retired in 2012 after 19 seasons with the Atlanta Braves. Chipper was a formidable force as a switch hitting third baseman with the ability to deliver clutch hits from both sides of the plate. He finished second to Eddie Murray in career RBI’s for a switch hitter. He is also the only switch hitter in MLB history to reach the 400 home run milestone and carry a career batting average above .300 from both sides of the plate. Chipper will be remembered as a crucial member of the 90’s Braves dynasty that also included a Hall of Fame pitching rotation with Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine and John Smoltz.

Sports Speaker Chipper Jones was a heralded prospect who was taken with the #1 overall pick in the 1990 MLB Draft. He earned a starting spot on the Braves big league roster after 2 short seasons in the minors. Chipper’s first full season came in 1995, the same year the Braves won the World Series. He finished 2nd in Rookie of the Year voting that year to pitcher Hideo Nomo. During his career with the Braves, Chipper made 8 All-Star appearances and was named the National League MVP in 1999. Chipper remained a fan-favorite with Braves nation until his eventual retirement in 2012.

Since retiring, Sports Speaker Chipper Jones has stayed busy, taking up hunting and becoming more involved with philanthropy work. He co-hosts a TV show called Major League Bowhunter that airs on The Sportsman Channel. In 2013, he founded the Chipper Jones Family Foundation that provides funds for cystic fibrosis and pediatric cancer research as well as supports the Make a Wish Foundation. Chipper’s namesake foundation also has its own projects called Around the Horn Program and the Field of Dreams Program. These projects refurbish baseball fields in the southeast in order to keep baseball alive in small communities. Jones is also a major supporter of Miracle League, an organization providing local baseball leagues for children with disabilities. Jones has said, “I believe in using my gifts and public image to help the community” and that’s exactly what he has done.
