Brad Richards is a Canadian born player in the National Hockey League for the New York Rangers.  He is one of the most respected and well-revered players in the league by both his colleagues and fans.  Growing up in Prince Edward Island, Richards naturally acquired a burning passion for the game of hockey.  After playing for the elite hockey program at Athol Murray College of Notre Dame, a boarding school in Saskatchewan, Canada, Richards quickly became a star in the QMJHL.  After dominating the Canadian Junior League, Richards was drafted in the 3rd Round of the 1998 NHL Draft with the 64th overall selection with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Sports Speaker Richards made his debut in the NHL in 2000 with Tampa Bay.  Richards became a crucial part of the Lightning’s offensive attack alongside fellow scoring threats Martin St. Louis and Vincent Lecavalier.  In his first four seasons in the NHL Richards showed improvement in each leading up to the 2004 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs.  Richards would lead the team through the Eastern Conference and to a victory in the Stanley Cup Finals in 2004.  He registered a record 6 game-winning goals throughout the Playoffs and was named the Conn Smyth Trophy Winner for his performance in the 2004 Stanley Cup Playoffs.  The Lightning never returned to the Finals again, and in the midst of the 2008 season Richards was traded to the Dallas Stars.  Richards played 3 ½ years for the Stars before reaching a 9 year/$58.5 million free agent deal with the New York Rangers in 2011.  After playing on a couple of underachieving Rangers teams in his first 2 years, Richards has led the team to the 2014 Stanley Cup Finals.  As the co-captain, Brad is one of the vocal leaders of the team and has been an integral part of their success.

Brad Richards hosts his annual ‘Brad Richards PEI Celebrity Golf Classic’ in Prince Edward Island.  The tournament supports the Children’s Wish Foundation and the Autism Society of Prince Edward Island.  During his time with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Richards would buy out a suite and allow families affected by pediatric cancer to use it and enjoy the game.   He also donates tickets to military personnel for every game.  Richards was also the recipient of the Lady Byng Trophy in 2004 for “sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct” while maintaining a high level of play.
