Sports Speaker Bernie Williams is a former centerfielder who played all 16 seasons of his MLB career with the New York Yankees. Bernie played a majority of his years as a Yankee under esteemed manager Joe Torre. His consistent play in the outfield and in the batter’s box helped fuel the Yankees to 4 World Series victories from 1996-2000. An instant fan-favorite, Bernie also never gave up on his dream of becoming a professional musician. Following his playing career, Sports Speaker Bernie Williams has blossomed into a Latin Grammy nominated jazz guitarist with 2 studio albums under his belt. In 2015, the Yankees announced they would be retiring his #51 during a special ceremony held at the new Yankee Stadium.

Before retiring in 2006, Bernie left his mark on the MLB and the Yankees franchise. In addition to his 5 All-Star appearances, Bernie won 4 consecutive Gold Glove awards from 1997-2000. When the stakes got higher, Bernie got better. He holds the record for most postseason RBI’s with 80 and is second all-time in postseason home runs with 22.

Outside of baseball, Sports Speaker Bernie Williams has enjoyed composing music as a Jazz guitar artist. In 2003, he released his first album The Journey Within that made it to #3 on the U.S. Jazz charts. In 2009, he released his second album Moving Forward that got all the way to #2 on the U.S. charts. During Derek Jeter’s last game in 2014, Bernie played a tribute song in the 7th inning at Fenway Park in Boston.

Bernie’s philanthropy efforts are in conjunction with his love of music. He has teamed up with Little Kids Rock, a non-profit that worked to restore music education in underprivileged public schools. In 2010, Bernie was awarded the “Big Man of the Year” award by Little Kids Rock for his donations that helped give music instruments to a school in the Bronx. In 2011, Bernie wrote a novel entitled Rhythms of the Game: The Link Between Musical and Athletic Performance, in which he discusses the similarities between baseball and music.
