She is the current American record holder for women’s hammer throw with a distance of 75.73 meters. In 2015, Amanda was one of several featured athletes to appear in ESPN’s annual The Body Issue. Following the release of the issue, Amanda appeared on news programs such as CNN and in online features from major networks including the Huffington Post and ESPN encouraging other female athletes and women everywhere to feel comfortable in their own skin. Amanda embraces her body type and she is using her platform as an Olympic athlete to empower other women to find beauty in their own unique physique.

She didn’t pick up the hammer throw until her freshman season with the Rebels.
