Biography:

Aly Raisman is an American professional artistic gymnast and captain of the US Women’s Gymnastics team for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Prior to the Olympics, sports speaker Aly Raisman was a member of the US Gymanstics team that won the gold medal at the 2011 World Championships. She also took home the bronze medal for the floor exercise at Worlds. The 2012 Olympic team was often referred to as the “Fierce Five,” and included Raisman, Gabby Douglas, McKayla Maroney, Kyla Ross and Jordyn Wieber. The dynamic group won gold at the Olympics team final. She contributed to the team’s win through her balance beam and floor scores. In addition to the team medal, Raisman won a gold medal in the individual floor event and a bronze medal in the individual balance beam final.

Raisman became the first American woman gymnast to win gold in the floor routine. Additionally, in 2013, she was inducted into the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.

In July 2012 Raisman was the focus of “Aly Raisman: Quest for Gold,” which was a Comcast SportsNet documentary. The gold medalist was filmed for the documentary throughout nine months, following the 2011 World Championships through the Olympic Trials. Additionally, Raisman, along with her “Fierce Five” teammates, was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated’s 2012 “Olympic Preview” issue. This marked the first time that an entire Olympics gymnastics team was on the cover of Sports Illustrated.

Raisman’s television career continued as a contestant on the 16th season of ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars.” She ultimately finished fourth in the dancing competition with partner Mark Ballas.

Prior to the Olympics, the national team captain held endorsements with Ralph Lauren and GK Elite Sportswear. Raisman and members of the men’s and women’s 2012 Olympic teams were a part of the 2012 Kellogg’s Tour of Gymnastics Champions. The event celebrated the sport and was held across the country. Endorsements continued for Raisman, as she signed deals with American Girl, Poland Spring and Pandora Jewelry.
