Sports Speaker Alex Morgan is an American professional soccer player currently playing forward for the Portland Thorns of the National Women’s Soccer League. She gained popularity among many fans and Americans after a stellar performance at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games for the USWNT. Alex scored a goal in the 123rd minute of the team’s semifinal match against Canada, the latest goal ever recorded in Unites States Olympic soccer history. Alex and her teammates defeated Japan in the final to win the Gold Medal that year and she was named the 2012 U.S. Soccer Athlete of the Year. Her impressive play on the field propelled her into a pop culture icon and she enjoys a host of appearance opportunities and endorsements. In 2015, Alex was a valuable member of the USWNT that brought home the third FIFA World Cup title in U.S. history and the first title in 16 years.

24 year old Sports Speaker Alex was a multi-sport athlete growing up and did not start playing club soccer until the age of 14. Her skills were apparent, and she was invited to join the U.S. U-17 National team. She continued to play for the U.S. National team and also was a standout star at University of California at Berkeley from 2007-2010. She was taken with #1 overall pick in the 2011 WPS Draft by the Western New York Flash and the team would go on to win the WPS Championship title that year. That same year she was the youngest player on the U.S. National team roster that placed 2nd in the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Despite not being named a starter until the 5th game on the U.S. Women’s team that won the gold at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, Alex quickly solidified herself as one of the team’s best goal scorers and contributors. That year she led the U.S. in goals with 28 and assists with 21, becoming only the 2nd player in history to record more than 20 goals and 20 assists in a calendar year alongside the legendary Mia Hamm. In 2013 she helped the national team win the Algarve Cup including 2 goals in the final match against Germany to win the championship.

Her skills and popularity have landed her several large endorsement deals and commercial opportunities from companies such as Nike, Panasonic, and Coca Cola. She is a brand ambassador for the health and fitness company GNC and signed on as a spokesperson for Chapstick in 2013. Aside from her endorsement deals, Alex was signed to a book deal with Simon & Schuster to write a middle grade book series about 4 soccer players titled, The Kicks. So far the first 2 publications have been a success and the first book, Saving the Team, debuted at #7 on the New York Times Best Sellers list for Children’s Middle Grade publications.
