Biography:

Venus Williams is a world champion tennis star who has been ranked World No.1 on three separate occasions. In 2002, Williams became the first American black woman to be ranked first in the world during the Open Era. She is also one of only two women to have won four Olympic gold medals and Olympic gold medals in singles and doubles in the same year. With 44 career singles titles, Williams is second amongst active players on the WTA Tour in titles. In 2011, Time magazine listed her among the 30 best women tennis players of all-time.

At the age of 19, Sports Speaker Williams amazed audiences in winning two Grand Slam doubles titles. In 2000, she continued to succeed, capturing two Grand Slam singles titles and a Wimbledon doubles title. The following year, she defended both of her Grand Slam singles titles and won the Australian Open doubles title; this completed a Career Grand Slam in doubles. In 2009, Williams remarkably won three Grand Slam doubles titles in the same year. She lived up to high expectations the next year, winning two Grand Slam doubles titles. Over the span of her career, Williams has won 13 Grand Slam doubles championships, 7 Grand Slam singles titles, and 4 Olympic gold medals.

Off the court, Williams runs a design firm named “V Starr Interiors” and a fashion line called EleVen. She also endorses a plethora of companies, including Ralph Lauren, McDonald’s, Tide, and Kraft. Williams is active in charity, contributing to various organizations such as the Elton John AIDS Foundation, Save The Music Foundation, and the Great Ormond Street Hospital. In 2001, Williams was named one of the top 30 most powerful women in America by the Ladies Home Journal. In addition, she was named to Forbes’ Top 100 Most Powerful Celebrities list in 2009. In 2010, Williams released a book entitled Come to Win; on How Sports Can Help You Top Your Profession. Her book was a major success, making a top 5 appearance on The New York Times Best Seller List.
