Biography:

What is the best word to describe the play of one of the NFL’s greatest running backs? Absolutely sensational. Sports Speaker Emmitt Smith is a former NFL running back turned Hall of Famer who played 13 seasons with the Dallas Cowboys and 2 seasons with the Arizona Cardinals. 3 Super Bowl rings and the most rushing yards in NFL history later, Emmitt is a prominent football analyst on ESPN’s NFL pre-game coverage.

Since retiring in 2005, Emmitt has also shown off his impressive dance moves as a contestant on ABC’s hit dance competition series Dancing with the Stars. He won the Mirror Ball Trophy in the third season of the show in the fall of 2006, and returned to the show in 2012 on DWTS: All-Stars. Emmitt has acted as a celebrity spokesperson for many companies throughout his illustrious career and still to this day. During the holiday season in 2014, Emmitt made a cameo appearance in a TV commercial for NFL Shop.

After declaring for the NFL Draft at the end of his junior season as a Florida Gator, Sports Speaker Emmitt was drafted in the first round of the 1990 draft by the Dallas Cowboys. By his sixth NFL season, he had already broke two of the Cowboys franchise records for most 100+ yards in the first 4 games in a season and most yards in a single game with 1,773. In 2001, Smith became the first player in NFL history to rush for at least 1,000 yards in 11 straight seasons. Most notably, in 2002 Smith broke the all-time rushing record of 16,726 yards, previously held by Hall of Famer Walter Payton. He went on to finish his career with 18,355 rushing yards and broke records for most rushing attempts in a career (4,409) and most rushing touchdowns (164). To go along with many broken records, Smith also won three different Super Bowl titles in 1993, 1994, and 1996, being named the MVP of Super Bowl XXVIII in 1994. After 2 finals seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, the power back retired a Cowboy on a 1-day contract in 2005.

Emmitt got his pass to the Hall of Fame in 2010 in his first year of eligibility. He now owns and operates his own real estate business, Emmitt Smith Enterprises. He also founded Pat and Emmitt Smith Charities to help educate and give under privileged children opportunities in life. Founded with his wife, Pat, the organization has raised thousands of dollars for north Texas youth in need. The Hall of Famer and philanthropist wrote a book entitled Game On: Find Your Purpose-Pursue Your Dream published in 2013. The books shares his insight on pursuing your dreams and finding your God-given purpose in life.
